Building healthy habits that last

Lasting change doesn't usually happen overnight. Research suggests that small, consistent adjustments are more sustainable than dramatic overhauls. Here are a few areas where incremental changes can support your long-term health.

Movement

You don't need a gym membership to stay active. Walking, stretching, gardening, and taking the stairs all count. The goal is to find movement you enjoy and can do regularly. Most health guidelines recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate activity per week.

Nutrition

Focus on adding more whole foods — fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins — rather than focusing on restriction. Drinking enough water throughout the day supports energy, digestion, and overall well-being.

Sleep

Quality sleep plays a significant role in physical and mental health. Consistent sleep and wake times, a cool and dark room, and limiting screens before bed can all help. If you're having ongoing trouble sleeping, let your provider know.

Stress management

Chronic stress affects nearly every system in your body. Simple practices like deep breathing, spending time outside, and maintaining social connections can make a real difference. If stress is affecting your daily life, your care team can help.
