5 preventive screenings that could save your life

Preventive screenings are one of the most effective ways to catch health concerns early, when they're often easier to treat. Talk with your provider about which screenings are right for you based on your age, family history, and risk factors.

1. Blood pressure check

High blood pressure often has no symptoms, which is why it's sometimes called the "silent condition." A simple check during your regular visit can identify concerns early. Most adults should have their blood pressure checked at least once a year.

2. Cholesterol screening

A blood test can measure your cholesterol levels and help your provider assess your heart health. Adults 20 and older are generally advised to have cholesterol checked every four to six years, or more often if risk factors are present.

3. Cancer screenings

Depending on your age and risk factors, your provider may recommend screenings for colorectal, breast, cervical, lung, or prostate cancer. These screenings can detect changes early, when treatment options are typically broader.

4. Diabetes screening

A fasting blood sugar test or A1C test can help identify diabetes or prediabetes. Early detection allows you and your care team to take steps that may slow or prevent progression.

5. Depression screening

Mental health is part of your overall health. A brief screening during your visit can open the door to support, treatment, and resources. There's no need to navigate it alone.

Talk to your provider. Screening recommendations vary based on your individual health profile. Your JAADE Health care team can help you understand which screenings are right for you and when to schedule them.
